Embarking and disembarking armies

With the 2.3.7 “Ships and fleets” update it became possible to ship armies over the dark waters on the Surface and down in the Netherworld.

Both the embark and disembark order are done from the active army. For armies that, for some reason, can’t execute these orders the button to embark or disembark will not be shown.

Embark army

One of the most important abilities of fleets is their cargo capacity. Each cargo capacity allows the fleet to embark and carry one company. The order button to embark armies is found in the order menu for armies. It will only be shown for armies that can embark a fleet in the same or an adjacent sector.

Embarkation is done instantaneous. An army can only embark on a fleet on the same or an adjacent sector that has enough free cargo space. Each company (incl. scouts) require one cargo space. A fleet can carry more than one army if the cargo space allows it. It cost 10 movement points for the fleet to embark an army.

When the army is embarked each company will embark on a specific squadron in the fleet and if anything happens to that squadron it also affects the company. For example, if a fleet with an embarked army engage in a naval combat against an enemy fleet and it loses a squadron that carries a company, then that company is also claimed by the sea.

Disembark army

Disembarkation of armies is done at the end of the movement phase and the fleet must remain in place for the army to disembark. The order button to disembark armies is found in the order menu for armies. It will only be shown for armies that are embarked on a fleet.

An army can disembark to the same sector as the fleet if it’s docked in a town or city or it can be disembarked to an adjacent land sector. When all movement orders have been processed armies that disembark leave their fleets. It cost 10 movement points for the fleet to disembark an army. When the army disembarks its movement points are set to zero.

If the army disembarks to a sector which hold an enemy army or settlement an amphibious assault is started. If the assault fails the army will retreat to the fleet and become embarked again.
